Ozonated Glycerin

Experience the miraculous health benefits of...

Ozonated Glycerin (OG) Therapy

Ozonated glycerin (OG) is a new, emerging therapy showing profound health benefits as it is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, regenerative, anti-cancer, and reduces pain.

OG is created by infusing medical-grade ozone into organic USP food grade vegetable glycerin. Glycerin acts as a stable carrier allowing slow release of ozone. OG is incredibly versatile as it can be used topically, orally, and locally for numerous health concerns.

Our clinic utilizes ozonated glycerin because it aligns with our approach to care:

  • Supporting the body’s natural healing mechanisms
  • Minimizing unnecessary pharmaceutical use
  • Using evidence-informed, biologically supportive therapies
  • Integrating seamlessly with other therapies for optimal outcomes

As a Fellow of the American Academy of Ozonotherapy (AAOT), Dr. Paul Despres regularly incorporates ozonated glycerin into clinical practice for a wide range of patients. He most frequently utilizes OG via nebulization for chronic brain fog and fatigue associated with Long COVID, as well as for sinus and respiratory conditions. OG is also commonly prescribed orally and topically as part of personalized treatment plans.

FAQ About Ozonated Glycerin

Ozonated glycerin may be used in the following ways:

Topical use
When applied to the skin, OG allows ozone’s healing properties to penetrate while remaining soothing, moisturizing, and well tolerated—even on sensitive or compromised skin. It is commonly used to support rashes, wound healing, skin lesions, warts, age spots, and slow-healing areas. In some cases, OG may be combined with DMSO to enhance skin penetration, as directed by a provider.

Nebulized
When diluted appropriately, OG can be nebulized to support sinus, lung, and certain neurological conditions. This route is frequently used for chronic sinus congestion, respiratory issues, and brain fog.

Nasal spray
An easier alternative to nebulization, OG nasal spray may help support nasal and sinus health, including sinusitis and chronic congestion.

Oral use
OG is beneficial for oral health concerns such as dental infections and gingivitis. When swallowed, it may also support gastrointestinal healing, including gastric ulcers and dysbiosis. Preliminary research suggests OG does not significantly disrupt healthy gut bacteria while targeting pathogenic species. Oral administration is often used for broader systemic support, including joint pain, autoimmune-related concerns, and overall inflammation.

Rectal use
Rectal application is most commonly used to support conditions such as anal fissures and hemorrhoids, as well as localized inflammation in the lower gastrointestinal tract.

Intravenous / injectable
Our clinic is currently monitoring emerging research and clinical feedback from other practices regarding intravenous or injectable OG. While early reports are promising, we are awaiting further clinical studies before offering this route.

Ozonated glycerin is a gentle yet powerful form of ozone therapy. It is created when ozone is bonded to glycerin, a naturally occurring sugar-based compound. Glycerin acts as a carrier, allowing the ozone-derived peroxide to be taken up by microorganisms that are attracted to sugar. Once inside, the peroxide helps neutralize them.

Ozonated glycerin is very concentrated. Just 1 mL of fully saturated ozonated glycerin contains the equivalent of about 10,000 gamma of ozone.

One of the most beneficial features of ozonated glycerin is how slowly it releases its active compounds. Research in animal models shows that it can continue releasing peroxide over a period of 2–4 weeks while maintaining antimicrobial activity. This slow release makes ozonated glycerin similar to a time-release form of ozone therapy.

Because it works gradually rather than all at once, ozonated glycerin is often well tolerated and may provide longer-lasting support compared to other ozone applications.

Ozone works by gently supporting the body’s natural immune signaling and oxidative balance, rather than suppressing the immune response. When used orally, topically, or via inhalation, ozonated glycerin may help support the body in the following ways:

  • Helping reduce pain and discomfort
  • Supporting antimicrobial activity (including viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites)
  • Promoting tissue repair and regeneration
  • Helping reduce inflammation and support healthy immune function
  • Supporting oxygen utilization at the tissue level
  • Helping break down microbial biofilms
  • Promoting collagen and hyaluronic acid production

Ozonated glycerin may be recommended as part of a broader treatment plan for:

  • Pain and inflammation
  • Wound healing including ulcers, minor cuts, burns, and abrasions
  • Rashes, inflammatory skin conditions, eczema, dermatitis, acne, and infected follicles
  • Nasal and sinus conditions
  • Conditions of neuroinflammation such as Long Covid-19 brain fog, Parkinson’s, MS, and so forth
  • Viral, fungal or bacterial infections
  • Upper and lower respiratory infections including sinusitis
  • Inflammatory and autoimmune conditions such as arthritis
  • Dental concerns such as periodontal disease, gingivitis
  • Scars and age spots
  • Eye conditions and infections
  • Mold illness
  • Lyme disease

Your provider will determine whether this therapy is appropriate based on your specific condition.

Your experience may vary depending on the condition being treated and the method of administration (oral, topical, nebulized, etc.). In general:

  • OG may be administered in several ways, including oral, nebulized, or topical use
  • Typical dosing is 1–3 times daily unless otherwise directed by your physician
  • OG is non-staining and easily absorbed
  • It is odorless, with ozone slowly released from the glycerin
  • OG is generally well tolerated; however, it can be overused, so consultation with your physician is recommended prior to use

Some patients notice improvements quickly, while others experience more gradual changes over time, depending on the condition and its severity.

We recommend purchasing only ozonated glycerin made with organic, USP–grade, food-grade glycerin and medical-grade oxygen, rather than products made using an oxygen concentrator. We refer patients to purchase from:

Ozonated glycerin is odorless. This is because it is a stable, non-lipid compound in which ozone is physically bound within the glycerin matrix. As a result, there are no volatile, odor-producing compounds.

Ozonated glycerin is gentle and non-irritating, releasing ozone slowly over time rather than all at once. The absence of odor does not mean a lack of ozone activity—on the contrary, it reflects stability and controlled release.

This is one of the reasons ozonated glycerin is especially well suited for oral and dental applications, ocular and mucosal use, and other situations where comfort and tolerance are a priority.

Ozonated glycerin is considered safe. Side effects are uncommon as long as used as directed. This therapy is:

  • Non-toxic
  • Free of antibiotics or steroids
  • Suitable for long-term use when supervised

Always follow your provider’s instructions and discontinue use if irritation occurs.
