What is Integrative Medical Care?

Integrative Medical Care

Personalized Medical Care That Complements Conventional Healthcare

Integrative medical care combines conventional medicine with evidence-informed natural therapies to provide a more comprehensive, personalized approach to health. Rather than choosing one approach over another, integrative medicine seeks to combine the strengths of both to help patients achieve better long-term health.

At Aspen Integrative Medical Center, we complement the care provided by primary care physicians, specialists, surgeons, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals by offering longer appointments, a broader range of diagnostic and treatment options, and a personalized approach to caring for chronic and complex health concerns. Our goal is to expand your treatment options—not replace the important role of conventional medicine.

Whether you’re seeking help with a chronic illness, optimizing your health, preventing future disease, hormone optimization, regenerative medicine, advanced IV therapies, or a physician who emphasizes personalized, relationship-based care, we’re here to help.

How We Fit Into Your Healthcare Team

Integrative medical care isn’t intended to replace conventional medicine—it expands upon it.

Every healthcare provider has an important role, and we believe patients often benefit when each provider focuses on what they do best.

Primary care physicians play an essential role in preventive healthcare. They provide routine annual physicals, age-appropriate health screenings, vaccinations, treatment of many acute illnesses, hospital follow-up, specialist referrals, and coordination of care within the conventional medical system.

Our role is different and unique.

By allowing more time during appointments, we’re able to better understand your medical history, explore contributing factors that may otherwise be overlooked, answer your questions thoroughly, and develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your individual health goals.

We focus on patients who often benefit from longer appointments, more comprehensive evaluations, and a broader range of treatment options. This commonly includes chronic and complex medical conditions, difficult-to-diagnose illnesses, hormone optimization, regenerative medicine, intravenous therapies, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, ozone therapy, and other advanced integrative treatments.

For many patients, we recommend maintaining an established primary care physician while also receiving integrative medical care at Aspen Integrative Medical Center. In our experience, these two approaches often complement one another and provide more comprehensive care than either could alone.

Another important reason we encourage patients to maintain a primary care physician is that our clinic does not provide after-hours, weekend, or urgent medical care. Having an established PCP helps ensure you have timely access to medical evaluation when unexpected illnesses or injuries arise.

When appropriate, we share relevant laboratory results and medical records with your other healthcare providers so they have access to important medical information related to your care.

Can Aspen Be My Primary Care Provider?

For adults, yes. While we can provide primary care services for adult patients, we encourage our patients to also maintain an established primary care physician within their health insurance network.

Having an insurance-based primary care physician provides additional access to routine preventive services, urgent or same-day medical care, insurance-covered testing and imaging, specialist referrals, and coordination of care within the conventional medical system. This is especially important because our clinic does not provide after-hours, weekend, or urgent medical care.

At Aspen Integrative Medical Center, we provide many traditional primary care services for adults, including preventive care, management of acute illnesses, treatment of chronic medical conditions, routine laboratory testing, prescription medications when appropriate, and referrals to specialists when needed.

Our approach differs from conventional primary care by allowing more time during appointments and incorporating both conventional and natural therapies into individualized treatment plans.

Whether this model is appropriate depends on your individual healthcare needs, where you live, and your preferences. During your initial consultation, we’ll discuss how Aspen Integrative Medical Center can best fit into your overall healthcare team.

Does Aspen Provide Primary Care For Children?

No. We do not serve as a child’s primary care provider or replace the role of a pediatrician or family medicine physician.

While we care for children with a variety of acute and chronic health concerns through an integrative approach, we require pediatric patients to maintain an established relationship with a pediatrician or family medicine physician for their primary care needs.

A child’s primary care provider plays an essential role in routine wellness visits, growth and developmental screenings, vaccinations, school and sports physicals, acute illness evaluation, and other preventive pediatric services. Our role is to complement this care by providing additional evaluation and integrative treatment options when appropriate.

Our clinic also does not provide after-hours, weekend, or urgent medical care. Maintaining an established pediatric primary care provider helps ensure that children have timely access to medical evaluation when unexpected illnesses or injuries occur.

We’re happy to collaborate with your child’s pediatrician or other healthcare providers and share relevant medical records and laboratory results when appropriate.

Is Integrative Medical Care Right for You?

You may benefit from integrative medical care if you:

  • Have chronic symptoms that haven’t fully responded to conventional treatment.
  • Want to combine conventional medicine with evidence-informed natural therapies.
  • Prefer longer appointments and a more individualized approach to care.
  • Are looking for treatment options beyond medication alone.
  • Have a chronic or complex medical condition involving multiple body systems.
  • Want to focus on disease prevention and long-term health optimization.
  • Are interested in advanced therapies not commonly available in traditional primary care practices.

How We Think About Healing

Integrative medicine describes the treatments we use, but it doesn’t fully explain how we think about healing.

At Aspen Integrative Medical Center, we believe exceptional medical care begins by understanding the whole person—not just a diagnosis or a list of symptoms. Every treatment plan is personalized and may combine conventional medicine with evidence-informed natural therapies to best support your individual health needs.

Our philosophy goes beyond simply integrating different therapies. We believe that improving healthy physiologic function throughout the body—from the cellular level to the body’s major organ systems—is fundamental to long-term health. This approach, known as terrain-based healing, guides many of the treatment recommendations we make for patients with chronic and complex illnesses.

If you’d like to learn more about this philosophy, we invite you to explore our Terrain-Based Healing Philosophy page, where we explain how restoring healthy physiologic function forms the foundation of many of our treatment recommendations.

Whether you’re looking for comprehensive adult primary care or specialized integrative care, our goal is to provide compassionate, personalized medical care that expands your treatment options and helps you achieve your best health.

Does Aspen offer primary care services?

For adults, we can provide primary care, but you encourage an outside insurance-based PCP as part of the healthcare team.

For children, we provide integrative medical care but does not serve as their primary care provider; an outside pediatrician/family physician is required.
